Artificial Intelligence Discovers Hundreds of Security Bugs in Firefox

Mozilla, employed a powerful AI Model Mythos, the most powerful iteration of Claude to figure out and address 271 security flaws in its popular Firefox browser. This is huge for internet security. The AI identified issues that would have exposed millions of users to risk. Interestingly Antropic the makers of Claude has yet not made Mythos public and its access is severely limited to few organizations and goverment entities.

What Is Mythos and What Did It Do?

Since its existence was made public, Claude Mythos it has been making waves in news cycles and has goverments and host of organizations worried. It is exceptionally to detect bugs in computer code which humans may need ages to find. Mozilla has special access to this tool. They applied it to scan the Firefox 150 code before its release to the world. Millions of lines of code were read using AI. It found 271 problems. A very large amount.

On the other hand, an older AI model detected only 22 bugs of a previous Firefox release. Mythos were over ten times as numerous.

What is the Importance of This?

Firefox CTO Bobby Holley said the results left his team in shock. It used to be a big deal when a serious bug was discovered. To be able to find 271 bugs in a single time, it’s quite shocking. But Holley called it a turning point, too. He claimed that attackers can now be overcome by defenders of software. The hackers had an upper hand for a long time. All they had to do was find a weakness in the software. The AI will now enable them to find and fix bugs more quickly than attackers can exploit them.

There is Limited Access

Anthropic is not sharing Mythos with everybody. This tool is so strong that the company is taking its time. It can only be used by a few large organizations at the present time. A few of the companies name as Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon, are included in this group. Mozilla was an exception. Firefox 150 has fixed all the bugs reported by Mythos.
