12-Week Notice by Samsung: Is Your Phone on Borrowed Time?

Many Samsung Galaxy users have a 12-week time frame. In that time, their device has been supported through updates. Samsung is actively restricting the devices that have the current software. Many users may not know about this. But the device they are using is getting close to being unsupported. Time is running out at a rapid pace.
What’s Going On?
Samsung’s software blueprint was updated in February. The Galaxy 21 Series has been removed from the support list, so it will not get any more updates.
As of February 2026, the S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra have all been removed from Samsung’s official software update list, meaning that they will not be receiving new software updates anymore. However, many other devices still in this time frame, like early foldable phones, are expected to lose support by August 2026. Both of those dates are approximately 12 weeks away from now.
Why should you care?

Although the phone may still function after updates or discontinued, it is no longer secure.
With the lack of repair and quality, outdated problems continue to pile up. So, the associated security gaps remain open for years. In a shorter version, an attacker will then be able to take advantage of the weaknesses present in your Samsung device, due to a lack of repairs and quality. The result is that it becomes easier to target most smartphones with the newly identified or discovered problems when new security patches are not applied regularly.
What should you do?
If your device is on the unsupported list, it is best to upgrade to a new device. All of Samsung’s Galaxy S and Z Series devices released in 2024 onwards will receive 7 years of software updates. This is over twice as long as the support received by older smartphones, thereby making them a much better long-term investment for people wanting to protect their personal data and privacy well into the future.
