A group of hackers who go by the name ‘Turkish Crime Family’ have gained control over Apple email and iCloud accounts. In return of keeping the accounts secure and not tampering with the credentials, the hackers have demanded $75,000 in bitcoin. Apple only has time till the 7th of April, to save more than 300 million accounts.

The hackers have stated an alternative to the given ransom as well, by stating their preference for $100,000 worth iTunes gift cards as well. The hackers also uploaded a YouTube video that shows them logging in the accounts, misusing the access they have to all the credentials. They also went ahead and circulated screenshots of the communications they have been doing with Apple.

On being asked to comment on the issue, Apple did not release a statement immediately, on whether the purported extortion attempt was true or not. It however went on to say that none of its systems experienced any kind of security breach.

In one of its statements, Apple indicated that a compromised third party source was what led to a leak of user email ids and account passwords. The company also provided assurance saying it has been in touch with law enforcement authorities, and will soon be able to identify the culprits.
