If you can’t find a document or file on your computer, chances are you or somebody else has either modified or deleted the data from your system. But thankfully you can retrieve and restore these files simply from backup (only if you use Windows backup system). You can restore your files using a previous version as well.



In case you haven’t saved a backup on your system, then we feel sorry to inform you that you have lost your data permanently. And hopefully this will teach you a lesson, to create backups on your system.



Recovering Data from Recycle Bin

If you or your friends have deleted any file from computer, you can simple recover it from your recycle bin, unless you have emptied your Recycle Bin.

Step 1: Open Recycle bin.

Step 2: Locate the file you want to retrieve and press right click on it and then select Restore.

Note: The recovered file will be available on its original location, once it is restored.

Restoring Files from Backup

In order to restore your lost data from a backup, first you need to make sure that your have created a backup on that system. Now just follow these steps to recover your precious lost data.

Steps 1: Open Backup and retrieve the data by clicking on the start button

Step 2: Now click on Control Panel and select Maintenance.

Step 3: Now Click on Backup and Restore, to start the recovery process.

One the data is recovered a folder will appear.

Step 4: Select Restore my files and then follow the instructions mentioned in the wizard.

Recovering Files from a Previous Version of their respected applications

Anyone can restore lost or deleted files in their previous state or version by using the steps mentioned below.

Step 1: Open your computer, and then go to My Computer.

Step 2: Now Navigate to the file or folder which used to contain the lost folder. Now make a right click, and then click on properties and select Restore previous Versions. If your folder was in drive C: / for instance, go to C drive right click there and click on ‘Restore Previous Version’.

Now you will see the list of all the available folders, which are stored in the system. Note that list will only contain the folders who have been saved by the user in their backup system.

Note: Before restoring the file of a previous version make sure to open it, to check that it is of the same version that you want. And then click on Restore.

Voila! You have recovered your data.

Warning – The file on your system will replace the file the deleted file to an updated current version on your computer, so make to restore them carefully as once restored they can’t be undone.

Note: In case the restore button appears to be unavailable, then you can’t restore the previous version of those files on the original location. However, you will be able to open or save it at a different location.
