Recently a Lenovo executive confirmed its plans to consolidate a stronger Smartphone presence in India. They plan on increasing their Moto brand offerings in the country.

A side-effect of this decision will be seen in its Vibe branded smartphones, whose sale will see an end in the sub-continent. Jack Huckfeldt, Lenovo’s Global Marketing Vice President, claims that this consolidation will help send a clear message to Indian consumers about its offerings. He also stated that they will focus on Moto Branded phones and phase out all its Lenovo devices in some parts of the world.

Lenovo believes by focusing on Moto they will be able to take advantage of the goodwill of Motorola in the Indian market. While we won’t be seeing any Vibe-Branded devices, Lenovo will still sell phones under its name.

This consolidation is seen as a manufacturer strategy, which can help strengthen Lenovo’s presence in the biggest Smartphone market. It is important for all Smartphone brands to create their own market in the country, as India is likely to surpass US by next year, which is currently the second biggest Smartphone user. Lenovo, plans on using Moto’s goodwill to increase their sale in India. They hope of battling through the intense competition in the country with global brands like Xiaomi, Oppo and Samsung.
